Why Lock&Lock containers are great for Geocaching. PDF Print E-mail

While out hunting for containers to use for my Geocache hides, I came across a type of container that seemed to have more positive attributes than negative ones.

That container type is called Lock&lock.

When looking for a container, it should meet some criteria if you want it to last for years.

They come in many shapes & sizes, which is nice, because it fits in to many cache applications.

If you paint them, make sure to use a paint made for painting plastic.

This paint is called Fusion by Krylon. It is available in the spray paint section of your local store. I like to spray on a base coat of Black Fusion, then I use a collage of cammo color spray paints to finish off the color scheme.

Rust-oleum has a set of specialty camouflage spray paints that are great to spray over the fusion coat.

Other paints stick well to the fusion base coat. Thus eliminating flaking paint problems later on.

By painting these containers it increases it longevity because the paint shields it from uv rays. Also being painted usually means camouflage. This also increases the life expectancy of the cache, as a muggle won’t find and take it as easily.

You can find these containers now, in just about any grocery store!

That convenience is really nice.

Also, be on the look out for buy on get one free specials on this product.

I like to purchase groups or sets of containers. That brings the price down to about $3. per item.

The old trusted favorite ‘Ammo Can’ is getting increasingly hard to find in good condition. Not to mention higher in price. You can only find them in army surplus stores to boot.

As the world gets scared of hidden containers, due to terrorism, we may find ourselves moving to clear containers.

Lock&Locks are created clear making it easy to see what is stored inside them.

Wide range of sizes and styles

There are over 70 different sizes of containers ranging from 0.1 litre to 12 litres. Within this range of sizes, there are containers with "trays" and "compartments". Containers with compartments allow for the storage of different items in the one container, making them excellent for use in Geocaches.

Airtight Sealing Mechanism

The name Lock & Lock is derived from the double locking mechanism. Combined with the use of a "hollow surgical grade silicon ring seal", this lock and lock mechanism ensure an airtight seal.

That makes them watertight too, so no more wet & moldy trade items or soggy cache logs!

Durability

The raw material allows the container to be subjected to extreme changes in temperature.

The factory estimated that the locking mechanisms are good for 3,000,000 bends.

That means they probably wont break for the 10 years the containers are expected to last.
